A Word About Marijuana

The cannabis plant contains more than 100 different chemicals called cannabinoids. Each one has a different effect on the body. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are the main chemicals used in medicine. THC also produces the “high” people feel when they smoke marijuana or eat foods containing it.

A Word About Medical Cannabis

Cannabis sativa has chemicals called active compounds. They act in the body in ways that may ease certain symptoms. The best known are delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is the part of marijuana that acts on the brain and affects mood, behaviour and thoughts, called psychoactive. Studies report that medical cannabis might help some conditions.

The NHS in the UK, many countries in the European Union, as well as 30 other countries, including Thailand, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and 38 states in the USA, have now legalized medical use of cannabis-based medicines containing THC and CBD, and it can be prescribed for the below conditions if requested:

Epilepsy and seizures.
Wasting syndrome associated with anorexia and HIV/AIDS.
People with nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy.
People with muscle stiffness and spasms caused by multiple sclerosis (MS).
Neuropathic and intractable cancer pain.

Other conditions medical cannabis can help with include:

People with on-going minor pain.
Lessening tremors in Parkinson’s disease.
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Crohn’s disease.
Irritable bowel syndrome.
Serious nausea or vomiting caused by cancer treatment.
Nausea and weight loss.

Conclusion: Even though there are massive amounts of claims online from doctors, medical researcher’s and patients who use medical marijuana, that cannabis helps improve the above conditions, to date (2024) there is currently no conclusive scientific research supporting the benefits or short and long-term health effects (both harms and benefits). For this reason we suggest that you consult your doctor or medial adviser before you try any cannabis type products for pain relief, just to be on the safe side.

Who Should Not Smoke Or Use Medical Marijuana?

People who should not use medical marijuana include:

People with heart disease.
Pregnant women or women breast feeding.
People with a history of psychosis.
People with a existing lung condition.
People with hypertension (high blood pressure) or elevated heart rate.

* If you have high blood pressure or a elevated heart rate it is not recommended to use cannabis related products but saying this research by the ‘European Journal of Internal Medicine’ shows that amongst older adults with hypertension, cannabis treatment for 3 months was associated with a reduction in 24-hours systolic and diastolic blood pressure values, with a nadir at 3 hours after cannabis administration. Once again please consult your doctor or medial adviser about using cannabis if you have high BP.

Cannabis Vaporizers Vs Smoking It

Tests have proven that smoke-free vaporizers deliver THC as well or even more efficiently than smoking, and that most patients prefer vaporizers over smoking.

When comparing the respiratory effects of vaping and smoking marijuana, vaping is generally considered less harmful to the lungs. This is because vaping involves heating the cannabis material to a temperature that is a lot lower than that of combustion during smoking, which intern creates a vapour that has significantly reduced levels of these toxins. As a result, vaping produces fewer toxic by products, such as as tar, benzene, toluene, ammonia and carbon monoxide, which are present in the smoke generated by smoking or burning cannabis. Basically, while vaping, people inhale all of the good stuff, and little of the bad stuff.

Thai Law On Growing & Selling Cannabis Today

In 2022 Thailand became one of the first country in Asia to decriminalise marijuana. The Health Ministry issued regulations that made cannabis a ‘controlled herb’ that requires a license for planting or selling. Due to we have a license for growing and selling cannabis the current Thai law states that we can grow, sell cannabis products and allow customers to smoke in-house. This law remains the same today (Sept 2024).

The only thing that has changed over the last few months is that there is a new prime minister, who assumed the office on 16 August 2024, but as far as the Thai law goes, when it comes to cannabis, nothing has changed, yet.

While Thailand waits on the outcome of what law and restrictions will be added or changed by the end of 2024 it leaves our little Bangtao cannabis shop, plus over 6,000 weed dispensaries, and many more pro-cannabis advocates in Thailand, having to just wait and see what happens.

Doom and gloom over. If anything changes we will also change to adapt to the new guidelines and Thai law. We will also update this page when and if anything changes, but the bottom line is, right now we are happy to say “We Are Open”, so drop by and say hi.

Thai Law On Food Products Containing Cannabis Or Hemp Today

According to the Ministry of Public Health’s announcement on food products containing marijuana or hemp components, and according to the Ministry of Public Health’s announcement on food standards containing THC and CBD contaminants, the standards of foods containing cannabis and hemp components are as follows;

(1) THC detected not exceeding 1.6 milligrams per package.
(2) CBD detected not exceeding 1.41 milligrams per package.

* The above information concerning food products containing cannabis or hemp comes directly from a Phuket law Attorney and Barrister in Aug 2024, so until any law changes this is the current law to date.
